Earthworm taxonomy workshop
Saturday April 27th and Sunday April 28th, 2013
The post-conference workshop is intended to provide student and all interested participants with practical training in earthworm sampling, sample preservation, earthworm identification and in karyotyping of earthworm chromosomes.

Programme

♦ Saturday
- • Sampling, with demonstrations of the various collecting qualitative and quantitative methods.
- • Preserving samples for museums collections, for DNA analysis and for laboratory stock.
- • Preparation specimens for karyotyping.
- • Presentation in PowerPoint and on the microscope of the main internal and external morphological characteristics used in identification.
- • Overview of morphological diagnostic differences among main earthworm families.
- • Main identification keys available.
- • Earthworm families and their distribution.
- • Demonstration of main taxonomic characters on the sampled material.
- • Practical training in earthworm identification. Identification of samples brought by participants.
- • Preparation of slides for karyotyping.
- • Demonstration of earthworms chromosomes and reading of the observed karyotypes.

Registration fees for the optional 2 days workshop on earthworm taxonomy (April 27th and 28th), including one night accommodation in Category D, meals and coffee/tea breaks: 100 euros. Additional night: 15 euros.
