The Farm

Welcome to our farmhouse!

Located at 4 km from Esposende, in the parish of Palmeira de Faro, Quinta da Seara is a privileged space of interaction with the region. On one side, the sea and the magnificent beaches of Esposende. On the other, the rural landscape indented by river Cávado, rich in stories and traditions.

Inserted in a rural environment, inside of a walled farm, Quinta da Seara has a total area of 19 hectares, distributed by vineyards, orchards, vegetable plots and pine groves. The facilities, despite totally remodeled, still keep the characteristic features of a traditional Minho’s farm, which have always been dedicated to agriculture and, more recently, to vitiviniculture.

With more than two centuries of existence, Quinta da Seara had once been owned by the last “captain-mor” of the “Ordenanzas” of Esposende, a high military rank at a municipal level in the reign of D. Sebastião. Today, converted in a farm of ecotourism, agritourism and enotourism, Quinta da Seara is the mirror of secular habits involved in a natural landscape of rare beauty.

THE VINES

Located on the Sub-Region of Braga, of the Demarcated Region of Green Wines, Quinta da Seara is recognized by the quality of the wine that produces. Presently, the label produced and commercialized with Quinta da Seara’s stamp is “MonteFaro”.

Benefiting of a high solar exposure and protected from the sea winds by Mount Faro and the involving woods of holm-oaks, cork-oaks, pine trees and eucalypts, Quinta da Seara presents the ideal conditions for green wine production.

The soil is dry, arid and stony. The vine, continuous and driven by cordon system, is exclusively populated by noble varieties, namely Loureiro, Alvarinho, Trajadura and Pedernã (white grapes), and Vinhão (red grapes). Finally, the wine cellar, constructed in 1965/66 and recently renovated, is equipped with an artificial cooling system, which controls the must fermentation temperature and allows a better stabilization of the wine. Despite modernized, the wine cellar still maintains some of the old and fascinating processes of wine making, such as the oak casks that recreate the conditions of wine fermentation and ageing, which have been used in the region for centuries.

Quinta da Seara is, therefore, a supreme environment for the lovers of enotourism, with a diversified program which includes wine tasting, participation in the vintage process, wine cellar visits, among other activities.
